Student athletes can keep their Facebook profiles, provided they keep them for only friends to see and follow the athletic departments code of expected behavior, said Athletic Director Laing Kennedy.The university had originally planned to ban the popular networking Web site to student athletes, but had a change of heart after reviewing the privacy measures available on Facebook.

After Tom Shifflet resigned in May to take the head coaching position at Hofstra, UNCG Director of Athletics Nelson Bobb immediately began the search for a new head coach. The Spartan wrestling program had enjoyed great success under Shifflet, winning 12 and 11 dual matches, respectively, over the last two seasons. Finding a successor to fill Shifflets shoes would be no easy task.

A deadly helicopter crash northwest of Iowa City on June 30 added to Iowas already-sizable list of notable aircraft incidents while shocking film buffs and eastern Iowans alike. Shooting a scene for the baseball-themed movie, The Final Season, a Bell Jetranger III helicopter carrying three people - the pilot, a photographer, and a producer - crashed into a corn field one mile west of Walford after hitting a power line.
