Man nearly drowns at Res

An unidentified 20-year-old man, who many spectators thought had drowned Tuesday while swimming in the Coralville Reservoir, was alive and undergoing treatment as of 8 p.m. Tuesday night, according to a statement from the Johnson County Sheriffs Office.

The incident stunned holiday revelers, who believed they had failed to resuscitate the man after pulling him from the lake floor near crowded West Overlook Beach.

Plot for a parcel

Local residents and city officials attended a public meeting two weeks ago to discuss the future of a seven-acre plot on Tremont Street - one that may include a 1,400-bed residence hall. The crowd that turned out for the three-hour meeting, held June 22 at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission in Roxbury, filled the room to capacity as three teams of developers presented their plan for the property.

Body found near campus, MBTA station

A body was found near a dumpster on Northampton Street at 9:44 p.m. Monday night, near the Massachusetts Avenue MBTA station. Police and investigators gathered around with flashlights amidst a crowd of anxious neighbors. "Im shocked that something would happen here," said Jose Torres, 24, who lives nearby and plans to start school at Bunker Hill Community College in the fall.

23-year-old woman presumed drowned

A 23-year-old woman is presumed to be dead after disappearing on Lake Travis Saturday night, according to the Travis County Sheriffs department.

Honor code edit in works

The Office of Student Judicial Programs is working on a modified Academic Honor Code for the coming fall.Judicial Programs will present the code proposal for the changes they wish to make to the Faculty Senate later this summer.The Center for Academic Integrity, an organization that works in cooperation with almost 400 institutions, has surveyed almost 50,000 students on more than 60 campuses since 2002.

Bring On The Freshmen 4200

Friday was the last day of the month-long orientation for the upcoming fall semester. This year saw more than 4,200 incoming students, up from the 3,600 students of last year. Each year incoming freshman and transfer students are brought to campus for their introduction into life at the university and all that has to offer.

KSU failed to verify ex-professor's degree

Last year the university hired about 260 full- and part-time faculty. Every department, school and college handles these hirings based on their individual policies within the universitys guidelines. This year already welcomes a new president and dean. Additional faculty positions have been approved in fast-growing fields such as journalism and fashion design.
